Scrubs Reboot: Different Times, Same Feels

Scrubs Reboot: Different Times, Same Feels

I was giddy as the opening scene played out, and I admit, with a teensy whiff of fear that Scrubs had somehow turned into a quasi-medical drama with just a bit of comedy on the side. (Watch the pilot’s opening scene on YouTube.)

But in true Scrubs fashion, it quickly morphed into the absolute absurdity that makes Dr. John Dorian’s thought sequences truly enjoyable to watch.

And in under a minute, I’m back. Back to a place that feels familiar and safe.

Why Scrubs (a.k.a I Do Want My Scrubs)

I am not a medical practitioner. But Scrubs’ relatability reaches far across careers in that it’s about navigating the workplace at the very least.

At its very core is reaping the wonders and joys of real friendship, navigating life, and accepting the inescapable and comforting truth that we cannot do it on our own. (And yes, even Superman has the Justice League.)

As with other sitcoms that have lasted the trials of time and have become classics on their own merits, Scrubs sincerely delivers the funnies and feels.

Friends, Modern Family, and Scrubs, to name a few, all have a common denominator: They touch life’s somber and serious moments through the magic of laughter. I guess that’s why these shows are worth revisiting in more ways than one.

Life Goes On

It’s almost jarring, unbelievable, and curious how we, as millennials, have experienced watching shows.

If you had told me that I would someday be able to watch all of the episodes of my favorite shows that I missed and on-demand and that I could rewatch them anytime… it’s a fascinating thing to experience, especially with this reboot.

Yes, you’re watching a show that was a blast from the past and it reminds you of not only a time in your life but an age wherein you lived, when things felt simpler and slower. And yet it’s here again in some new form, like an old friend whom you meet again after ages. You recognize them, but they look different now.

I guess it’s the reason why JD casting of the X-ray image from the tablet onto the smart TV felt so simultaneously awesome, inspired, and odd.  (Watch the new opening theme sequence on YouTube.)

We’re in different times, but it’s the same feels.

Cheers,

Fork
